The next time you are poring through your rewards and loyalty programs' websites (I do quite often as you might tell), look for a section on the site for referring your friends and you might be able to earn a bonus. For example, on Amtrak's Guest Rewards page, you can refer a friend to their program and if they train in the next 90 days, you can get a 500 bonus point kickback. And, your friend gets a kickback as well of 1,500 points. So, you can both win but your friend wouldn't have known about that bonus until after they registered, thus losing out on an opportunity for free points.
While Amtrak may not be your primary travel loyalty program, the principal is the same: look for "refer member" or "refer a friend" offers with banks, airlines, retailers, and numerous others and you both can make out quite nicely just for doing a bit of a soft sell. Just don't be obnoxious :)
I would be interested if any readers had luck doing this with local retailers, like your dry cleaner. Suggest to them that you can bring in a lot of business and see if you can get a discount for your troubles. Write me or post a comment and let me know if you have had any success.
Twitter Updates
Look for quick-action discounts and savings on the Twitter feed to the right of my blog. I will be posting timely updates there, such as the allmenus.com 20% off savings that expires this coming this Sunday.
